Sirius Online User Guide: Teachers, Co-Teachers, and Tutors

Sirius Online User Guide: Teachers, Co-Teachers, and Tutors

Introduction

Welcome to the Sirius Online Users Guide for Teachers, Co-Teachers and Tutors, a reference to help you understand how you can best use our platform in your classroom. We created this document to save teachers, coaches, and subject-area coordinators time and help them avoid difficulties implementing our product.

Sirius Online is designed to complement your core curriculum by addressing gaps in adopted instructional materials. It delivers focused TEKS instruction and authentic STAAR 2.0 practice, ensuring students master the content, context, and complexity required for success.

Used alongside your primary resources, Sirius Online helps students:

  1. Engage with essential TEKS
  1. Understand how TEKS are assessed on STAAR
  1. Apply key skills and concepts through rigorous practice

By integrating Sirius Online, you add depth, precision, and STAAR-aligned rigor to your instructional approach.

We are honored to support you in helping your students succeed. Please contact us for assistance. And thanks for all you do!

Instructional Flow

The diagram below shows the stages of instructional flow and core actions that educators generally consider as they deliver instruction to students.

Sirius Online programs provide three distinct types of activities: instruction, practice, and assessment. When used for intervention, the program typically involves the following stages and assignments, which follow the standard instructional flow cycle:

  1. Diagnostic Tests: Preliminary assessments to diagnose student needs
  2. Instruction and STAAR practice: Lessons for teaching and practice
  3. Post tests and spaced review: Post-instruction assessments to measure and monitor progress

The key to your use of the instructional flow cycle depends on how you plan to use your Sirius programs’ resources. If you are using Sirius Online for intervention or test preparation, you will likely follow the stages of instructional flow closely in standard order (which you can do by simply moving through a Sirius Online course lesson-by-lesson).

On the other hand, if you are using Sirius assignments with other instructional goals or targets in mind, you might deviate from the usual order of instructional flow or come up with your own pathways through your Sirius resources, as opposed to proceeding lesson by lesson. With Sirius Online, different modes of implementation are supported through flexible assignment-making.

  1. e-Learning Courses: Complete a self-paced introduction to Sirius Online and earn a certificate of completion.

Getting Started

You will most likely not need to create classes within the Sirius Online platform because they are usually rostered automatically by your district IT staff or other support staff. Access to Sirius Online is embedded in the district portal or available through Clever, ClassLink, Edlink, or your district learning management system (LMS).

If you do not have single sign-on (SSO) or rostering available to you, you may need to set up classes through our self-registration process. For more on self-registration, please see our Sirius Online Rostering Guide, including our video overview of the registration process.

Logging In

  1. For schools and districts set up through a single sign-on (SSO), please access Sirius Online using that method (Clever, ClassLink, Edlink, or your district learning management system (LMS).
  2. For self-registered schools and districts, log in at the Sirius Online Sign-In page using your username and password.

When you log in to your Sirius Online account, you will land on the Classes tab in your dashboard. There you can view class cards, manage each of your classes, dive into Sirius Online courses, and navigate to all other areas of the platform.

Creating Classes – For Self-Registered Teachers Only

If your district uses Clever or another rostering service, your classes will be preloaded. Otherwise, you will need to create your classes manually. You can create a class by following these steps.

  1. In the Classes tab of the dashboard, click the orange +Add/Join Class button in the upper right of the screen.

  1. In the pop-up window that appears, choose +Add New Class and click Continue.

  1.  Fill out the required fields:
    1. Class Name: When naming your classes, include grade levels and period names for easier identification across reports, e.g., "5th Grade RLA – Period 1."
    2. Start Date: Enter the first date you’d like students to begin assignments.
    3. End Date: Enter the last date for students to complete assignments. Be sure to set your class end date at least two weeks after the last day of class to ensure the class is not archived before you are finished with the school year.

  1. Click Save. The new class will immediately appear in the Classes tab on your dashboard.

The Dashboard

The dashboard serves as the central hub for managing activity in Sirius Online. Click on the tabs at the top of the screen to see a distinct view of your Classes, Content, Assignments, and Reports, as well as to link to Support and to access your profile. Each tab is described in detail below.

  1. Classes: The Classes tab is your home base. It provides access to each of your classes via class cards, from which you can access courses, make assignments, manage your roster, and more.
  2. Content: The Content tab provides a preview of all Sirius Online courses, lessons, and assessments available to you.

Notes
The Content tab shows merely a preview of available content. To assign a course to a class, you must access the content through a class card.
  1. Assignments: In the Assignments tab, you can view, assign, edit, or delete assignments. Here you can also monitor student performance and engagement progress.
  2. Reports: The Reports tab provides access to the two main ways that Sirius reports class-level and individual-student performance data—by assignment and by standards (TEKS).
  3. Support: Need help? Click the Support tab to link to Sirius Online Support, where you can search the Sirius Knowledge Base, submit a support ticket, or chat with a support agent.
  4. Blue Notifications Icon: Messages from the Sirius team and system-related notifications can be found in the upper-right corner in the circle icon with a number inside. The number represents system notifications and messages that are currently active.
Notes

If you have not yet received any notifications, a circle will not appear. When you do begin to receive notifications and see the number in the circle change, be sure to review your messages, since we often include special notices about application updates as well as notices of exports with access to them.

  1. Profile Icon: Manage your dashboard here to update your account settings, switch roles, manage archived classes, provide feedback, etc.

Notes
If your district purchased either the STAAR Summative Assessment Bank (SSAB) or the STAAR Formative Assessment Bank (SFAB), your dashboard will display a Test Builder tab in addition to the sections described above.

Managing Your Dashboard

To manage your dashboard settings, click the Profile icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear listing your profile settings as well as other aspects of your account, each of which is described below.

Profile Settings

To access your profile settings, click the profile icon in the upper right of the screen and select Profile in the drop-down menu that appears. Here you can view and update your profile settings as follows:

  1. Customize your profile image: Click on the Edit button beneath the profile icon. In the Upload Image tab of the pop-up window that appears, click Choose File. You can now browse your device and select a photo or other image file to upload (in the form of a PNG or JPG file). Select the image and click Save. Your profile image will now appear on your profile.
Notes
Your profile image can be seen by administrators and students.

  1. Choose an avatar instead: If you logged on using a single sign-on (SSO), you will also see a list of avatars available to use as your profile image. Simply select an image in the Avatars tab and click Save.
  2. Change name/password: If you self-registered for Sirius Online, you can update your name and login credentials here as well.

Access Archived Classes

Once the end date of a class has passed, the class will automatically be archived and will no longer be available in the Classes tab. If you self-registered for Sirius Online, you can access an archived class and reactivate it as follows:

  1. Click the profile icon and choose Archived Classes from the drop-down menu that appears.
  2. Find your class from the list of archived classes and click Reactivate.
  3. Set a new End Date, extending it as far as needed to keep the class active. We recommend the end date be at least two weeks past the last day of school.
  4. Click Reactivate. The class should now be available in the Classes tab and to students.
Notes
  1. Reactivating an archived class is not available for teachers who are district-rostered through Clever, ClassLink, Edlink, or an LMS.
  1. If you would like to archive a class, set the End Date to a date in the past.

Class Cards

Once your classes are loaded into Sirius Online (whether by your district IT or manually by you), you will see your class cards in your dashboard upon logging in to Sirius Online. At the bottom of each card you will find links to a number of key features and functions, as described below.

  1. Content: Add a Sirius Online course or courses to the class indicated by the class card or access existing courses and content previously added to the class.
  2. Assignments: Manage current and past assignments. You can edit, delete, or view student scorecards.
  3. Roster: Your current list of students in your class. This section also contains co-teacher and student access codes.

Notes
Student access codes are needed only in self-registration districts.

  1. Class Settings: General settings for the class, including co-teacher access codes, class name, start and end dates, and class image.
  2. Accommodations: Set or adjust student accommodations for Sirius coursework.

Notes
Accommodation settings apply exclusively to students listed on the class card, with all accommodations enabled by default.

  1. Groups: Create and manage instructional groups within each class.

Notes
The co-teacher view is nearly identical to the teacher view, with the exception that co-teachers cannot access Accommodations or Class Settings.

Adding Courses to Classes

In order to make assignments for students, you will first need to add a Sirius Online course (or courses) to each of your classes. There are two methods for adding courses to classes in Sirius Online. The first allows you to quickly assign the same course to multiple classes; the second allows you to add a course (or courses) to a single class.

Adding a Course to Multiple Classes

Use this method to save time if you are adding the same course to multiple sections of the same subject.

  1. Click the Content tab at the top of your dashboard.
  2. Locate the course that you would like to add to your classes. If you do not see the course card among those shown, you can search for the course title in the drop-down menu in the upper-left corner of the screen or by keyword in the search box to the right of the menu.

  1. On the course card, click the ellipsis (...) to reveal the menu. Click Add to Class.

  1. Click the checkbox next to each of the classes you’d like to add the course to. Then click the orange Add button.

Adding a Course to a Single Class

Use this method to add one or more courses to a single class.

  1. On the class card in the Classes tab of your dashboard, click the blue Content button below the class’s name.

  1. Click the orange +Add Content button in the upper-right corner of the screen.

  1. Select the course (or courses) you’d like to add to the class by clicking the checkbox to the left of the course. Then click the orange Save button in the upper right of the screen.

  1. The selected course will be added to your class, and its name will appear on the class content page.
NotesYou must add courses to your classes! Regardless of the method by which you were rostered—whether automatically through an IT system such as Clever, ClassLink, or EdLink or manually via self-registration—you are responsible for adding courses to your classes.

If you're missing a purchased course or program, please contact Sirius Online Support and submit a technical support ticket for assistance.

Sirius Online Tutorials

Be sure to add the Sirius Online Tutorials course to each of your classes. This informative module includes:

  1. The Sirius Tools Tutorial for students, a review of all the key tools and accommodations students will use on the online STAAR test. It’s an essential resource to explore with students before diving into course content.
  2. A collection of eLearning modules designed for teachers and educators to familiarize themselves with Sirius Online’s features and functionality.

Bilingual Courses

For classrooms with at least one Spanish-speaking Emergent Bilingual (EB) student, we strongly recommend using the English-Spanish bilingual courses. (If your class does not include EB students, we recommend using the English-only versions for streamlined instruction.)

English-Spanish bilingual courses are available for:

  1. Grades 3–5 RLA
  2. Grades 3–5 Math

These courses allow you to assign activities in either English or Spanish, depending on the needs of your students.

Adding Images to Class Cards

You can upload an image to personalize each of your class cards, making them easier to quickly recognize.

  1. On the class card, click the ellipsis (...) in the upper-right corner of the ghosted or existing image at the left of the card.

  1. In the Upload Image tab of the pop-up window that appears, select Choose File.  Choose an image file from your device. Click Save.
Notes
The image file must be less than 5 MB in size.

  1. If necessary, crop the image to an appropriate size: Click the Crop Image tab in the Edit Card Image window and crop the image by moving the corners of the crop box so the box shows the portion of the image you’d like to display. Click Crop and Save.

Changing Class Names

You can edit the default name of any class by following these steps:

  1. On the class card, click Class Settings. This will bring up the class settings screen.

  1. In the Class Information section of the class settings screen, type the new name of the class in the Class Name field. Then click Save.

Notes
All customizations you make to the class card (images and names) will be visible to students and co-teachers when viewing the class card.

Adding Co-Teachers to a Class

If you are sharing a class with another teacher or teachers, they will need to join your class as co-teachers:

  1. Click Class Settings on your class card.
  2. In the Access Code section of the class settings screen, near the bottom, locate the Co-Teacher Access Code. Select and copy the code.
  3. Share the code with the teacher(s) you wish to co-teach your class.

  1. Have your co-teacher(s) navigate to the Sirius Online Sign-In page and click Register. They will then need to enter the co-teacher access code in the text field.

Notes
  1. At rostered districts, co-teachers who self-register must use the self-registration method for each class they plan to participate in as co-teachers. That said, it is highly recommended that all co-teachers be rostered via Clever, ClassLink, or Edlink in districts that use a single sign-on (SSO) into rostered classes.
  2. At self-registration districts or schools, self-registered co-teachers can join a second or subsequent class by clicking Join a Class.

Idea
If a co-teacher receives a message that their email address is already in use, have them add a +1 before the @ symbol (e.g., firstlast+1@example.com).

Setting Student Accommodations

Sirius Online offers accommodations that aligns with STAAR assessment guidelines. These features give students valuable practice using the same support they’ll encounter on the STAAR test. There are two sets of accommodations:

  1. Designated Supports: available to students for all tests
  2. UDL Supports: available only in practice assignments

You can customize accommodations for individual students at any time by following these steps:

  1. On the class card, click Accommodations.

  1. Use the toggles to turn individual accommodations on or off for each student.
Notes
Accommodations are all turned on by default.

Idea
To turn off accommodations for all students in the class, use the Select All Students toggle in the top row.

Creating Groups within a Class

You can create groups within a class. By using groups, you can easily assign work to select students.

  1. On the class card, click Groups.

  1. In the Groups screen, click the orange +Add Group button in the upper-right corner.

  1. In the pop-up window that appears, enter a name for your group in the Group Name field. (You also have the option of adding a description or other notes about the group in the Group Description field.) In the Select Students column, click the checkbox next to the name of each student in the group. Finally, click the orange Add Group button.

Notes
  1. Groups can only be created within a class and cannot have students from other classes added to them.
  2. You can make as many groups as you want, and students can be members of multiple groups.
  3. Students will not be able to see the group name or description and will be able to see only activities assigned to them. Additionally, if you have co-teachers making assignments, students in a group will not be able to tell which teacher made the assignment.

Modifying Groups

You can change the name, description, or members of a group at any time.

  1. Select Groups on the class card.
  2. In the Groups screen, find the name of the group you’d like to make changes to, either by locating it on the screen or searching for the group name in the Filter by field.
  3. Click the Pencil icon to the right of the group name. Then click the Edit Group button that pops up.

  1. In the pop-up window that appears, make your desired changes. Then click Save.

Sirius Online Courses

The Content link on a class card provides direct access to your district’s purchased Sirius Online courses. These courses include the activities that will be assigned to students. From the class content page, teachers can review, select, and assign course materials as needed.

Let’s take a deeper look at navigating courses. To access a course:

  1. Click Content on your class card.

  1. Click Open on a course. You will see the full contents of the course, organized in various folders, such as assessments and modules.

You’ll notice that each time you open a new course or you open a folder within a course, a navigation path, or “breadcrumb,” appears in the upper left of the screen. You can use these breadcrumbs to navigate to previous pages.

Using Quick Navigation

The orange Quick Nav button provides teachers with an at-a-glance view of the entire curriculum structure housed within the class folder. With a single click, educators can:

  1. Access the full curriculum outline, organized by unit, topic, or resource type
  2. Jump directly to any section of the course for fast review or reference
  3. Scan content efficiently to locate specific lessons, materials, or instructional supports

Using the Quick Nav feature streamlines navigation, reduces time spent searching, and supports just-in-time planning or classroom adjustments. Just click on the Quick Nav button and choose where you’d like to go from the options that appear in the drop-down menu.

The Introduction Folder

While each Sirius Online course is organized into folders with content specific to its subject area, all courses include an Introduction folder containing useful general information as well as teacher resources unique to the course. To access the Introduction folder, follow the steps described below.

  1. Go to the course by clicking Content on the class card and then clicking Open next to the desired course. Open the Introduction folder that appears at the top of the screen. You will find the resources described below.
  1. Course Contents: Shows an overview of the course, highlighting its modules and corresponding assignments.
  2. Teacher’s Guide: A reference tool that explains how course resources can be used effectively for instruction.
  3. Welcome Letter: An interactive lesson for you to assign to students, introducing them to the Sirius Online platform and guiding them through assignment navigation.
  4. Getting Familiar with STAAR Item Types: A critical set of lessons designed to walk students through the various STAAR item types. The lessons can be assigned individually or used in Presentation Mode for whole-class review.

Depending on the course, the Introduction folder may also include the following:
  1. OER Planning Guide: Outlines a planning framework aligned with Bluebonnet Learning curriculum support course delivery.
  2. ELPS Teacher Resource: Provides scaffolded activities for differentiating instruction across all four proficiency levels, supporting diverse language learners.

 Course Overview

When reviewing the various folders and modules in a Sirius Online course, you’ll see activities such as Diagnostic Tests, Learns, Practices, Challenges, and various post-instruction assessments such as Cumulative Reviews, Post Tests, and a full-length authentic STAAR Practice Test. No matter what the activity is, it falls into one of three categories: instruction, practice, or assessment.

Practice Mode vs Test Mode

For practice and assessment activities, students answer questions in a platform built to resemble the online STAAR testing environment. Assessments can be taken only in Test Mode, which closely simulates the STAAR test-taking experience. Practice activities, on the other hand, are generally taken in Practice Mode, which emphasizes learning through feedback and other interactive participation.

Practice Mode

Lessons and activities in Practice Mode provide students with:

  1. Immediate system-generated feedback
  2. Hints and sample answers
  3. Multiple opportunities to practice until the correct answer is achieved

Feedback is designed to help students understand why incorrect choices (distractors) are wrong and why correct answers are valid.

When students work in Practice Mode, only their first submitted response to a question is scored. Although they may try again and receive feedback, their final score reflects their initial attempts.

Test Mode

Test Mode is meant to completely simulate the online STAAR test-taking experience. Students complete assessment assignments without Hints, sample answers, or retry opportunities. Only submitted responses are tracked and scored.

Notes
Certain practice activities can be assigned in Test Mode. As the instructor, you decide whether each activity should be completed in Test Mode or Practice Mode at the time you create the assignment.

Searching Course Content

You can search Sirius Online content in two basic ways: either by using search words (or “tags”)—useful for finding specific lessons, practices, and assessments—or by alignment (i.e., specific TEKS). Start by clicking Content on a class card. Then click the orange Go to Search button in the upper-right corner of the content page.

Searching by Tags

In the Tags tab of the search window, go to the Search field (with the magnifying glass). Here you can enter specific keywords to search through the activities contained in the class course—or courses if a second or third program, such as a course from an earlier grade level, was loaded into the class.

To see which courses are in the class, click the drop-down menu of the Course field. You should see all the courses loaded into that class. (If there is only one course in the class, that course will be the only option in the menu.) You can search through All Courses or choose a particular course from the drop-down menu and search through just that course.

You can also limit the subject of the courses you search by selecting the desired course subject or subjects from the Subject drop-down menu.

Searching by Alignments

In the Alignments tab of the search window, you can search the content of a class course by selecting one or more applicable TEKs from the list shown. Simply click the checkbox next to each standard you’d like to search for, and all activities aligned with that standard from the course will appear on the right. You can also filter the aligned activities by activity type by selecting Practice, Assessment, or Instruction.

Whether you search by tags or alignments, once you have your results, you can View, Present, or Assign an activity directly from the search results window.

Idea
Be sure to click the Reset Filters button before beginning a new search to ensure that previous filters are not still applied.

Previewing Content

You can preview any activity—including lessons, practices, and assessments—before assigning it to students. This helps ensure that the material matches your instructional plan.

To preview an activity, click the Open button at the right of its card. The preview will be displayed just as students will see the activity.

Teacher-Only Toolbar Tools

On the toolbar at the top of the screen of an activity, you have access to two tools that are not available to students:

  1. Reveal: Allows you to hide specific parts of an item during presentation. For example, you can show just the question portion of an assessment item and conceal the answers, then reveal the answers when you’re ready.
  2. Answers: Displays the answers for each question.

Presenting Content in Presentation Mode

Presentation Mode allows teachers to project or screen-share Sirius Online content during live instruction—perfect for modeling strategies or whole-class practice.

Presenting allows you to record answers to questions and utilize all the tools in a lesson as if you were the student. When you choose to present you can either create a new presentation or access one you already have in progress. All of your interactions are saved.

To open Presentation Mode, click the Present button beside an instruction, practice, or assessment activity.

Assignments

With Sirius Online, you can assign activities to individual students, groups, an entire class, or multiple classes, for asynchronous or in-class work.

Creating Assignments

Each activity card has an Assign button on the right. To create an assignment, follow these steps:

  1. Select Assign on the chosen activity.

  1. In the assignment builder pop-up window that appears, fill out the fields as described below.

  1. Assign To: Select which class or classes you wish to assign the activity in. If you select an individual class, you then have the option of assigning the activity to the entire class, to one or more individual students, or to any group of students you have created within the class.

NotesAll of your classes that contain the course will appear in the Assign To drop-down menu. To assign the activity to all or multiple classes at once, select All Classes beneath the drop-down menu.
  1. Date Range: Select the start date and time of the assignment as well as the due date and time. This range controls when a student is able to access the assigned content.
  2. Mode Option: If the assignment can be administered in either Practice Mode or Test Mode, a drop-down menu will appear in which you can choose which mode to administer the assignment in.

Notes
Practice activities in all courses are set with both Practice Mode and Test Mode enabled. Mixed Review preps in the Math courses are also set to allow either mode.
  1. Reports & Scores
    1. District reporting: Choose whether to include student scores in district-level Course Reports and Standards Reports. To exclude scores from district aggregation, toggle the Release to reports field off.
    2. Student access: Once the activity has been submitted for scoring, you may opt to release the scores to students. You can also enable the option for students to review their submitted work.
  2. Student Instructions: Enter customized instructions to the class(es), group(s), or individual students you are assigning the activity to. Once everything is set, click Assign. You will receive the following success message:

Alert
If you’d like to assign this same activity or resources to other students or classes, click Yes. This will create duplicate assignments. If this is the only assignment you are making, click No.

Managing Assignments

In the Assignments tab, you can view all the assignments you’ve created as well as the scorecards for each. You can filter or search for specific assignments or drill down into the scorecards to see student performance and engagement data on each activity. Use the tab to track progress and provide feedback as well as to review and take action on student work.

You can reach the Assignments tab in two ways:

  1. From a class card: by clicking the blue Assignments link
  2. From the dashboard: by selecting the Assignments tab at the top of the screen

Alert
  1. When accessed via a class card, the Assignments tab defaults to showing only the assignments for that specific class. Although you can adjust the settings to view assignments across all classes, this broader view is not the default when entering through a class card.
  2. When accessed via the Assignments tab, the screen displays the last filtered view—not necessarily all assignments across all classes, as you might expect.
  3. Regardless of how you access the Assessments tab, clicking the Reset Filters button will clear the filter settings and show all your current assignments across classes in the date range shown.

 Filtering and Searching Assignments

In the Assignments tab you can quickly locate a specific assignment by filtering your assignments by class, status, due date, and more. Alternatively, you can search for an assignment using key words such as the title of the activity. Details for filtering and searching assignments are shown below.

  1. Filters: Use the criteria shown in the left panel of the Assignments tab to filter assignments by start date or due date; the class(es), group, or individuals the activity was assigned to; the status of the assignment (pending/active); or which teacher made the assignment. Filters can be reset by clicking the Reset Filters button.
  2. Search: Type keywords in the search box in the upper-right corner of the screen to locate an assignment by the name of the activity.
  3. Assignment List: For easier viewing, select the Assignment List tab at the top left of the screen to see your assignments ordered by list view.
  4. Assignment Status: Use the tabs to the right of the Assignment List tab to sort your assignments into categories based on their status:

    1. Assigned: Shows assignments that have been created but no students have started working on yet.
    2. In Progress: Shows assignments that at least one student has begun work on.
    3. Closed: Shows assignments for which the due date has passed and at least one student has not submitted, or there may be a question that needs to be manually scored by the teacher.
    4. Scored: Assignments shown here have been completely scored and are ready for review.

Idea
Combine filters for more precise results.

Edit Assignments

You can change the settings of an assignment after creating it and even after students have begun working on it.

  1. Locate the assignment you’d like to edit. Click the Score button to the right.
  2. Hover over the Assignment number. A pop-up window will appear. Click on either Edit for Student or Edit for Class.

  1. In the pop-up window that appears, you can change the status of the assignment, its start date or due date, the student instructions, and score-reporting preferences.

  1. When you have completed your edits, click Save.

Idea
Another way to bring up the assignment editor is to select the checkbox to the left of the assignment in the summary page of the scorecard and then click Edit in the top right corner.

Delete Assignments

To delete an assignment, follow the same steps you would to edit an assignment:

  1. Click Score on the assignment you’d like to edit.
  2. Hover over the Assignment number and select Edit for Student or Edit for Class.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the pop-up window that appears and select Delete Assignment.

  1. Click Save to delete the assignment.

Assignment Scorecards

An assignment’s scorecard provides detailed real-time data on student performance of an assignment; it's perfect for guiding feedback and reteaching decisions for students. To access the scorecard of an assignment, click the Score button on the assignment you’d like to review.

There are four tabs in a scorecard:

  1. Summary
  2. Details
  3. Engagement
  4. Standards
Each of these tabs provides different insights into class-level and student-level performance and engagement on an assignment.

Summary Tab

In the Summary tab, you can view the assignment status and general performance data for each student along with other assignment information, as detailed below.

  1. Assignment: Displays how many times the activity has been assigned. For example, a value of 2 means the student received the activity twice.
  2. Submitted: Shows the date the student submitted the assignment. You can reassign or “unsubmit” student work by hovering over the submitted date. You can also “force submit” students' work if they have not submitted or forgot to submit.
  3. Student Work: Shows the score for the student on the assignment. To view details of the student’s work on the assignment, click the score percentile in the column.
  4. Score Reporting: Use the on/off switches in the scoring area to individually control which scores on different assignments need to be shared with the student or sent to Reports.
  5. Feedback: Leave feedback for the student by clicking the speech bubble icon on the far right.

Details Tab

The Details tab provides an item-analysis view in the scorecard, including the following features.

  1. Usage: Shows the time a student spent working on an assignment.
  2. Grade: Shows the calculated score for the assignment (as long as there are no manually graded items in the assignment).

Icons shown in the assignment header will differ depending on how the activity is structured. Each assignment may feature a unique set.

Accessing and Reviewing Student Assignments

  1. Accessing assignments: Click the score or the Eye icon in a student’s row to open their assignment. You can also click any cell to jump directly to that specific question.
  2. Previewing questions: Hovering over a cell in the Item Report table reveals a pop-up preview of the question, allowing for quick reference before deeper review. You may choose to exclude the item from the student’s final score.
  3. Navigating student work: Teachers can review responses either item-by-item for a single student or student-by-student across an item, with options to evaluate, leave comments, and interact via the comment fields.

Notes Use the Show/Hide toggle to display or hide items that are not scored.

Engagement Tab

The Engagement tab provides information about how students interact with the assignment. With the data given, you can easily spot trends related to student engagement behavior, with an eye toward improving test-taking skills based on deeper levels of feedback you can offer students over time.

  1. Time on Task Ratio: Indicates the balance of time the student spent answering items correctly versus incorrectly.
Idea
Helping students learn to slow down and proceed through test items methodically is perhaps the single most effective measure of engagement that you can use in your feedback to students as they use Sirius Online.

  1. Feedback Usage: Shows the number of times the student used the feedback feature. It displays the data as a ratio. The first number is the total number of times the student used feedback; the second number is the total number of times feedback was available in the activity.
Notes
This metric is only available with Practice Mode activities that are set for practice only. Helping students use item-level feedback and additional contextual information not only builds their skills, it helps them proceed methodically toward correct responses.

  1. Resources Usage: Shows the number of uses of tools or resources (such as Calculator, Dictionary, References, etc.) used. Although these special resources may not be useful for students on all items, you’ll want to understand which students are using their program’s resources at hand and whether engaging with these resources helps improve their ability to provide correct responses.
  2. Annotations Usage: Shows the number of uses of annotation tools such as Strikethrough, Highlight, Sticky Notes, or Mark for Review. You may be requiring students to use specific strategies or metacognitive markers as they dissect passages, questions, and responses. With the Annotations Usage column, you’ll be able to see the students’ annotations usage quickly before examining their work in more granular ways.
  3. Language Tool Usage: Shows the number of uses of the Translate and Speak tools. With such data, you can gain greater insight into how English language learners and students become better readers using text-to-speech and translation as they acquire greater language skills.

Standards Tab

An assignment scorecard offers a unique view into student performance by standard. The Standards tab shows the assignment’s items organized by standard along with the text of each standard. In addition, it shows the class average and individual student performance on each item within the standard.

Exporting Assignment Reports: Overview & CSV Breakdown

To support data-driven instruction and targeted feedback, teachers can export detailed CSV reports from the Assignment Report scorecard. These files provide insights into student performance, engagement, and standards alignment across the activity. Click on the Export button in the scorecard to download the CSV reports.

Available CSV exports include:

  1. Summary CSV: Ideal for quick comparisons or progress tracking, the Summary CSV provides high-level metrics for each student, including:
    1. General performance indicators across the activity
    2. Student-level data for fast review
  2. Item Analysis CSV: Delivers granular insights into how students interacted with each item, such as:
    1. Item-level performance scores
    2. Time spent per item, recorded in seconds (divide by 60 for minutes)
    3. TEKS/alignment tags for each item to support standards-based analysis
    4. Final usage time, calculated across the activity
  3. Standards CSV: Offers a comprehensive view of each student’s performance, including:
    1. Scoring details for the overall assignment
    2. Time spent on the full activity and on each individual item

How to Manually Score Items

Most content—including Lessons, STAAR Practice, Diagnostic Tests, Cumulative Reviews, Post Tests, and final Practice Tests—is automatically scored. However, certain programs may include open-response items that require teacher evaluation before scores can be released for reporting purposes.

If manual scoring is needed, follow the steps outlined below to evaluate and release scores for these items.

  1. Open the Assignments tab.
  2. Click on the Closed tab to view assignments that students have completed but still require manual scoring. Locate the assignment with the item to be manually scored and click Score.

  1. Click Score under the Student Work header. The assignment will appear, and you will be able to manually score all of the student’s answers.

  1. Toggle on the Show only manually scored items button. This will open the item that needs to be manually scored.

  1. The Score panel will appear on the right. Use the double arrows to minimize the panel for a better view of the student’s work. Evaluate the response and either click Give Full Credit or enter a score manually.

  1. Use the Previous Student and Next Student buttons to score the same item across all students.
  2. Enter any feedback in the Teacher Comments field.
  3. Once scoring is complete, click Save.
  4. To exit, click the X in the upper-right corner.

Once manual scoring is complete, the student’s final score will appear in the assignment scorecard.
Notes
You can also identify manually scored items in the Details tab of the scorecard. Items requiring manual scoring will display a Score button in the Grade column, and a blue pencil icon will display under the question.

To support your students’ experience on the Sirius Online platform, here are some steps you can tell them to get them started when working on an assignment.

  1. Begin by clicking the orange Start button on the assigned activity.

  1. When the activity loads, click the Next button at the bottom center of the activity title screen.

  1. Carefully review the activity’s instructions as well as any pre-activity questions, proceeding from one pre-activity screen to the next by clicking the Next button.
  2. Reply to each activity question by selecting the correct answer (or otherwise interacting on-screen) using Sirius tools and then clicking Next.
  3. Inform students that they can use the Go To button at the bottom center of the screen to open the slide-tray navigator. From there they can navigate among the activity’s items and/or view items they have not completed or have marked for review. (Using the Mark for Review tool, students can flag items they would like to return to later in their session.)

6. When students have answered all the questions in an activity, usually they will click the orange Submit button to turn in their work. In some practice assignments, they may be instructed to save their unfinished work for later by clicking the Save for Later button.

Notes
Students doing assigned auto-scored STAAR practice work—done in Practice Mode—will have the opportunity to receive feedback based on their first attempted response. Options may include Try Again, Show Hint, View Sample Answer, or Show Correct Answer. Feedback options vary across courses and item types, and students may be required to submit answers before more feedback is given.
